Ephemeral Rainbows

I have spent many hours, especially as a teenager, trying to record those rare, beautiful weather moments.  Some weather can be big and dangerous, thunderstorms and that ilk, but the gentler atmospherics can be just as winning.   I have dutifully hauled my camera around but find some manifestations, such as rainbows, a rare event especially in a harmonious setting.  I  was driving back through western Wisconsin through farmlands from my orchard on May 26, 2005, and went through a succession of small rains.

I hopped out of the car and walked into the grass before the next rain arrived.

This was my favorite shot - the shoots of the sprouting corn can just be made out.

The setting wasn't ideal here but the rain and one rainbow was quite spectacular.    This only lasted moments so I had to take pot luck with the setting.

I have driven back and forth from the orchard many times since and not seen rainbows like this.   It just makes capturing these moments that much more satisfying.
