This is the year of my 45th high school reunion. I went to three different high schools, the first in Mt. Vernon, Iowa for two and a half years. I was the high school yearbook photographer then. Here are a few glimpses back.
This is a time exposure in one of the main high school hallways.
This shows a sizeable fraction of the student body at a football game.
Mrs. Rife was our very fine English teacher. I was an English major in college, in part because of her.
This is the school Octet practicing. I'm the guy on the far left.
One of the biggest changes since the 1960s was in girls' sports. I had forgotten about the Girls' Recreation Association, all the sports girls had then, until I looked at my pictures. Title IX made a big difference. Athletic girls can get serious about sports now.
These students are on the school's front steps.
This is our big active marching band's practicing.
Basketball games were a big deal.
These are two of our music contest contestants.
Substantial effort was put into Homecoming decorations.
This is a Dixieland band and, I think, the master of ceremonies of our Talent Show (she's on the right).
This is most of the males in the choir singing "There is Nothing Like a Dame" at the Talent Show. I'm singing - just a brief solo - on the left. I realized in picking a few photos from the hundreds available that I've given sports the short shift. But then, it's my choice and I now find music more interesting.
